Monument near Blackford or Dunkeld

Post by David L Munro » Wed Aug 11, 2010 2:36 am

There is a Monument with My Father's name on it at a Y in the road near Blackford or Dunkeld ?.His name was James Lauder Munro died 1980 Canada a member of the Black Watch 1st WW out of Perth. His home was Little Dunkeld near the saw mill owned by the Lauder Family. Can you tell me what the monument was for, as he was one of the few to return from WW1 from that area. Grandfather William Munro Grandmother Elizabeth Lauder lived for a while behind the Murray Chapel on or near the strathallan estate.

Thank you
David Lauder Munro

Hello David

Is this the place, just north of Dunkeld, a Y-junction, near a couple of sawmills?

There is a war memorial near Strathallan Estate - at Tullibardine, this is near a Y in the road and also shows both those who were killed in WW1 and those from the local area that served. Could this be what you are referring to? I can find it on google street view but can't read the engraving. It's too dark now to go down and see it :D

Can have a look at it tomorrow.

Hi David,

See http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtop ... scot#29161 for photos and information about the Tullibardine WWI memorial. Private J Munro of the Black Watch is listed there.

All the best,

AndrewP
