Doune Cemetery, Kilmadock, Look Up

Post by darylrodger » Wed Sep 08, 2010 8:57 pm

Hi,

I was hoping that someone could possibly help with a look up for an ancester of mine in Doune cemetery.

Her name was Mary Gillespie nee McMillan b.c. 1805 to Hugh McMillan & Margaret Carrick. She was married to David Gillespie, and died on 16th Dec 1856 in Doune, Kilmadock and according to her death certificate was buried in Doune churchyard.

I've contacted Stirling archives & cemeteries dept regarding records but they said they didn't have any records for Doune churchyard.

I would like to know if she was buried alongside her husband David or any of her children, or if there are any Gillespie burials in that area.

Can anyone help ?

Regards,

Daryl

Hi Daryl,

As Doune was in Perthshire, it may be worth contacting the Perth Archives - in the A K Bell Library, I think.

All the best,

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your suggestion regarding A K Bell in Perthshire.

I sent them an email earlier today with details of Mary, and they said they don't have any records. I'm stumped now, as I've contacted both Stirling & Perth council/archives only to be told they don't have records. :?

Any ideas as to where to look next ?

Regards,

Daryl

Seems to be a published MI book - if you've not checked it, maybe one to follow up just incase there was a stone

Hi Daryl,

I've visited Doune and Kilmadock churchyards as it's where my Kennedys are from. Both are very small.
Doune has a few headstones but most of those that survive are illegible.
Kilmadock has more legible headstones.

The area is only an hours drive from Glasgow and is very picturesque - I enjoyed my day there when I visited last year.

The archives for Doune, Deanston and Kilmadock are held by Stirling County Council.

Regards,
Annette
