Hello folks,
I am searching for the burial of my grandmother's young sister who died in Gorbals, Glasgow, on 15 May 1908 at the age of 14. They were a Roman Catholic family. She was Catherine Jane DUNDAS.
I have contacted the Archdiocese of Glasgow and a search of the register for Dalbeath St Peter's didn't find her.
A phonecall to the Cemetery and Cremetoria Register at Glasgow City Council left me with a choice of paying £62 for a search or contacting the good people of TalkingScot for advice. No contest!
Can someone tell me what might have been the cemetery used in the area of Gorbals at this time and particularly any used by Roman Catholics?
I have searched the 'memento-mori' site.
Thank you

Hi Casserole,
The nearest cemetery would be the Southern Necropolis right in the heart of the Gorbals.
The only other R.C. Cemetery is St. Kentigern's in Balmore Road - Possil area of Glasgow.
99% of Non-Demonimational cemeteries contain R.C. burials - the only difference in the burials being that the R.C. grave or particular part of a section would be consecrated by the local priest or who-ever, so Catherine could be anywhere.
Sorry not to have been more positive!
Anne

Hello Anne,
Thank you for your reply.
I thought about Southern Necropolis but since the family were not well off I discounted it. I think that St Kentigerns might be a bit far from the area they lived in but it is a possibility.
Thank you for your help, Anne
