Hello Everyone
The following is a reply that I got from The Mitchell Library regarding Old Monkland deaths
"Unfortunately no death registers exist for the parish of Old Monklands. If you know the place of burial you may be able to locate monumental inscriptions for the cemetery."
Does anyone know if there are MI's for OLd Monkland and where can I find then please?
Heather

Hi Heather
You could try the Glasgow and West of Scotland FHS:
http://www.gwsfhs.org.uk/
Also might be contacting the Scottish Genealogy Society - they have a list of published MIs here, but they also have many unpublished ones in their library.
http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/acatalog/ ... re_MI.html
A search on Google came up with this
http://tayvalleyfhs.org.uk/resources/li ... hp?bk=2632
from Tay Valley FHS which suggests there is some material available.
I'm sure someone who knows more about that area might be able to give you more specific information as to what is available.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Heather,
I understand that LFHS has an ongoing project - see quote from the web site below.

I understand that LFHS has an ongoing project - see quote from the web site below.
My interest is in if there are any records for what used to be the "old graveyard" at Old Monkland Cemetry and wrote to groundsmaintenance@northlan.gov.uk a couple of months ago but never received a reply. I also emailed Ron Porteous after seeing his post on TS last week (can't find the post). He advised that Monklands Heritage Group has just started an index (I'm assuming it's for all of Lanarkshire) and it will take some time to complete, but he kindly offered to have a look to see if there were any records when he's next up at North Lanarkshire Cemeteries Office. So I'm waiting with fingers crossed. From Lanarkshire Family History Society
National Burial Index
The society is committed to transcribing mortcloth, burial and death extracts from the Old Parochial Records and make this information available for the National Burial Index. It will also endeavour to transcribe the pre- 1855 monumental inscriptions from such burial grounds and churchyards that have not yet been recorded.
Regards,
AnneH
