Dolphinton Creamery .....

Post by maggiehill » Fri Jun 23, 2006 7:47 pm

I am researching my grandfather John Kerr Lando who lived at Felton Farm, West Linton from 1919 to 1934. While at Felton he and others set up in 1920 the Dolphinton Creamery Company, the building was constructed by Kerr Builders from Biggar.

Could someone tell me how I can find any information about the creamery?
Also as Grandfather and his mother were illegitimate any details of the Kerr Builders to see if there is a family connection.

We have obtained some information in the Old West Linton book.

Hi Maggie,
Sorry I can't help with the creamery BUT I noticed Finlayson on your list so checked your previous posts and lo and behold :D I spotted Archibald and Janet Marchbanks. My ggggrandfather James b1822 was their son. Do you by any chance have dcs for Janet and Archibald? Have only just started researching this side and don't have birth or parents for Janet yet.
Kind regards,
Paula

Paula

Archibald Finlayson died 4 may 1884 at Biggar, have not found Janet Finlayson death yet but it was between 1851 and 1861.

Have sent you a private message with more details of the Finlaysons.

Hi there Maggie,
I can tell you that Kerr the builders no longer exist as a firm and there is only 1 member of that family still living in Biggar. Suggest you get in touch with Biggar Museum Trust, they may have some data in their archives.
Researching - McMorran, Stark, Sanderson, Crawford, Somerville, Cleghorn, Lanarkshire.
Marshall, Laird, Lang, Morton, Renfrewshire.
Craig- Stonehouse. Wilson, Bennet, Linn.

Grace,

Thanks for reminding me we met the local historian Brian Lambie last year in Biggar. Have now sent e-mail to him.
