Post by mothergoose » Mon Jul 10, 2006 4:22 am

Anyone help me with MIs at Polmont Cemetery for my gt.gt.grandparents. Their names are Alexander Thomson b 1837 died 1917 and his wife was Christina Small b 1842 and died 1883. Their parents were William Thomson and Allison Brown and Christina's parents were GeorgeSmall & Elizabeth Thomson.

Thanks :?

Hi Mothergooose
..and a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D
Some Polmont MIs seem to have been published - see
Stirlingshire MI - Stirling East. Pre-1855. A4, 260pp
http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/acatalog/ ... re_MI.html

Perhaps if you got in touch with the central library at Stirling they would be able to help you? Contact info here:

Best wishes

Hi Mothergoose,

Just to say it might also be worth contacting Falkirk Library at

falkirk.library@falkirk.gov.uk

They definitely have an index of Polmomt MIs as I found my partners relatives gravestones through it a few years ago.

Hi Mothergoose,

I had a look through some of the MI's I have for Polmont but unfortunately, I don't have anything matching your names although here are quite a number of Thomson's in the Churchyard and adjoining Cemetery.

The following inscription contains 3 generations of Alexander Thomsons . . . ?

Front
In memory of Sergt. ALEXANDER THOMSON, 11th Black Watch who died on service
At Swaffam 30th November 1918 aged 28 years
Beloved husband of Bella Watt and beloved son of Alexander and Agnes Thomson
The above ALEXANDER THOMSON beloved husband of Agnes Heeps
Who died at Lea Side, California, 14th January 1929 aged 75 years
The above AGNES HEEPS who died 18th April 1933 aged 76 years

Right Side

Also of their children
MARY, BELLA and MAGGIE who died in infancy, interred in Slamannan Churchyard

Left Side
Also their daughter AGNES died 23rd September 1963 aged 79 years
Their son JOHN died 18th September 1968 aged 79 years

2nd Stone
In memory of ISABELLA SMART died 20th April 1965 aged 70 years, loving wife of
GEORGE THOMSON died 21st June 1970 aged 75 years
And their daughter MARION W. FROST died 25th May 1988
Also their son ALEXANDER THOMSON died 18th July 1995

The only other Thomsons I have will be Thomsons who were killed or wounded in either WW1 or WW2 - I've just finished photographing individual stones for CWG in Polmont so if you want a note of them, PM me and I'll send them through.

Also, if you want Thomsons pre-1855, just let me know.

Anne
