Thurso (mount Vernon) cemetry

Post by gloryer » Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:26 pm

My daughter helps an 89 year old lady and she was asking about her brother that died whilst in the navy. She knew that he was buried in scotland but knew not where. I have found his burial place on commonwealth war graves. She would dearly love to visit but as she lives in Lincolnshire I doubt if it will be possible. I am wondering if anybody would be able to do a picture for me and maybe that will be enough to suffice her. It is Thomas Gale sec E grave 34.
Can anybody help with a digital photo then I can print it of for her.
Thanks
GLoria

Hi Gloria,

I can't help with a photo but if all else fails, try http://www.britishwargraves.org.uk , you can request a photo from them.

Hi again Gloria,

I'm thinking that Thomas has a non-conforming stone i.e. not one of the little CWG stones. He may well be mentioned on a family stone or maybe there's no stone at all.

Not all volunteer photographers include family memorials when they do a cemetery so perhaps whoever photographed this one simply missed it out.

I do work for them and although all the cemeteries in my area have been 'done', I've found hundreds of men, all mentioned on family memorials which have never been included.

I'm due to send off a batch of photos today so I'll put in a wee request for you and we'll see what happens.

Anne

Thanks ever so much for your help. I will phone my daughter tonight and tell her that a photo is on her way. This kind of thing just restores your faith in human nature. I am so grateful and I am sure the old lady will be as well.
Thanks you
GLoria
