MI's Old Monkland

Post by angel » Fri Sep 15, 2006 11:58 pm

Hello Everyone

I am looking for the death of John Gray 1848-1851 can anyone help please? His wife Fanny Johnston died 1 March 1897 Coatbridge. Does anyone have a MI book for the area please?

I need to find out when he died so I can track the parents and and find the deaths of Fanny's parents too. I have various spellings for her mothers surname (Ruicastle). This is a really big ](*,) and has had me stumped for a good few years now so any help would be gratly appreciated.

hi Heather
If your John died pre-1855, unless he was buried in a family grave, I think it is unlikely there will be mention of his parents... if only he'd lasted 'til 1855!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Heather,

I attended a meeting recently with a group of people trying to collate as much info on Old Monkland Churchyard as possible. They have burial records and are photographing and transcribing all the existing stones.

I believe that the local council are involved to an extent and that they've agreed some sort of 'lifting' scheme to enable the inscriptions on the fallen stones to be read - I don't know whether they intend just to put them back or turn them over.

I'll try and find out more and let you know.
