Livingstone Cemetery

Post by Pandabean » Sun Sep 24, 2006 7:28 pm

Hi,

Just wondering is anyone near this cemetery at all and if anyone can take a photo of a gravestone for me?

I am looking for my Great Grandfather. Robert Thorburn (or Fairnie) Greenlees who died in 1917.

From an email I was also told that there was a John Harper in the same lair and I have no idea who he is.

All I know is:
Lair No. A554 in the
Livingstone Cemetery. Also buried there is a John Harper in
12.12.1919, no age given. Lair Holder is unknown!

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks,
Andy

When I got the details of my paternal Grandmother and Grandfather's cemetery lair, I was surprised to be told that there was also a child with a surname that meant nothing to me.

Later research revealed that he was the infant son of my Grandmother's stepsister, (I didn't know her father had a 2nd wife up to that point!).

Maybe you'll discover that this "stranger" was a spouse of a relative or a sibling's son.

That's something that fascinates me about doing this. I'm really putting meat on the bones of my ancestry with some of the "other" facts that suddenly reveal themselves when I least expect it :D

Hi Andy,

Did you get your information from West Lothian Council. If not, it may be worth asking them if they have any further information that would help you. See the following thread on TalkingScot.

I got it from the West Lothain FHC and they had contacted the local cemetaries dept and got that information for me.

Emanday - The Harper name as far as I know has no relation to any of my lot. So I will have look into deeper at one point.

Hi Andy

I visited Livingston Old Parish Kirkyard on Saturday, and I'm so glad to report that it's very well maintained and peaceful there. The Church is still in use, although there was no-one there on Sat afternoon. My husband and I read all the headstones but couldn't see any of your names. There are no markers. The stones are from the 18th century to this year. There aren't any new lairs, anyone who gets buried there will be in a family plot. There are also many plots with no headstones or markers at all. I took some pics to let you see.

I phoned West Lothian Council today, and a very helpful lady said that she would get a cemetery worker to mark out your plot for me and phone and let me know when it was done. Once again, superb help from the best Council in Scotland. I will get the pic you want as soon as she contacts me.

I'm not sure how to post pics, but I'll try!

Mary

Nope, can't seem to work it. Will try a pm.[/url]
