Found an inscription on a stone which said "Elizabeth Heggie, Reliot of the late Robert Simpson, age 69". Does anyone know what a "reliot" is/was. The obvious answer is "relative" I suppose but then why not state the relationship.

Hi there,
It should be "relict" which is an old word for widow. It used to confuse me
too

Searching for Barclay Aberdeenshire, Stewart Edinburgh, Brown Edinburgh & Uphall, Finlayson E Lothian, Fairley & Renton E & W Lothian for starters!

Thanks for that, given the age of the stone it could well have been eroded but your suggestion makes sense.
