Where else to look

Post by CathieL » Fri Oct 27, 2006 8:48 pm

Can anyone suggest where else to look for my grandparent’s burial place. Catherine Connolly died March 17th 1921 at 1301 Govan Road Glasgow, usual residence 91 Rutherglen Road. Patrick Connolly died August 19th 1939 at 1301 Govan Road usual residence 222 Broomloan Road Govan.
Jack very kindly looked for Patrick’s burial but could not find anything and I asked the Mitchell about Catherine and they could not find anything. The places looked at were
Craigton, Southern Necropolis, Glasgow Necropolis, St. Peter’s (not common ground-missing from library copy), Rutherglen, Eastwood, Lambhill, Sighthill. Tollcross and St. Kentigerns's. The Mitchell suggested trying Glasgow City Cemeteries and Crematoria Department, which I did but they want £55 to look and I can’t afford that at the moment.

Patrick and Catherine were very poor and I wondered if that had anything to do with where they might be buried. Four of their children died very young and I also wonder they could be buried. Would the poor house have had a burial ground?
Any ideas at all would be most welcome

Hi Cathie,

Try St Convals Cemetery in Barrhead as it was used for burials from The Southern General. You can phone them as they have it on computer. I have phoned a couple of times and found them very helpful. Phone Number 0141 881 1058.

Hi Helen
Thank you for your answer but being my usual eejit self I forgot to include in my post the list of cemeteries that Jack checked for me.
Arkleston, Paisley
Cardonald
Cathcart
Craigton
Dalbeth (Old)
Glasgow Necropolis
Hawkhead, Paisley
Lambhill
St. Convilles RC, Barrhead
St. Kentigerns RC
St. Peters Dalbeth RC

Seems to me every cemetery in Glasgow has been checked with no luck.
