Monzievaird & Strowan M.I's look up please?

Post by Rach » Sat Nov 04, 2006 8:01 pm

Having been up to Monzie churchyard where I found my great, great grandparents' gravestone I was hoping to go one generation further back but they didn't seem to be buried in Monzie.
I recently bought the South Perthshire M.I. book hoping to find their M.I's. However they are not recorded in that. Their children were baptised in Monzievaird so I was wondering if they could be buried there.
If anyone has the M.I's for South Upper Perthshire, PLEASE, could you have a look for me.
I am looking for William Gould/Guild who died 25 April 1839 at Connachan, Fowlis Wester; his wife, Ann McCallum who died before him; his daughter, Elizabeth McRaw m.s. Gould who died 1870 also at Connachan. There was also a son, Robert [by William's first marriage] and another daughter, Catherine.
As always I will be very grateful for any help at all.
Names of interest: Perthshire- Taylor, McDonald, McRaw, Gould; Caithness- Cormack, Campbell, Sutherland; Berwickshire- Darling, Johnson, Whitlie, Forrest/Forrester/Foster, Barns/Barnes,Buglass/Bookless; Wilson, Thorburn, Cowe, Laing, Rae, Colven, Collin,

I too, am researching families from Monzievaird and Strowan, Fowlis Wester and surrounding areas.
If anybody has The MI book for Upper Strathearn, please could they tell me whether there are many McRories noted. If so I will get the book. If there are only one or two references then I'll leave it as the £12 is a bit much in that case.
Many thanks in anticipation of a reply.

As you are in Edinburgh, you should be able to see that book in the SGS Library (in Victoria Terrace), and probably in Edinburgh Central Library's Scottish Library (two levels below George IV Bridge entrance).

All the best,

Thanks for reply, Andrew, but unfortunately I am virtually housebound and cannot forsee having the strength to go up to Victoria Terrace and/Central Library. I am a member however, can order the book and get discount. Just wondered if I would find no McRories or just one or two. There were a significant number of them in the area for years but whether they had marked graves is another matter!
