My great grandmother died in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in 1922. On her death certificate the district of registration is George Square. My grandfather, her son in law, registered the death,he lived at 22 James Street.
I had always assumed that she was taken back up north to be buried as her usual residence was there. However, I've since discovered that it's a possibility that she is not buried there so wondered where she would be.
Would it be a cemetery in the district she died or where my grandfather lived(is it the same district?).
Any pointers on how to go about looking for her grave would be appreciated.
thanks
fiona

Hi Fiona
If you think she may be buried in Edinbugh the lair and burial records are held at Morton Hall Crematorium - you can visit (I think you need to let them know you are coming) and look though the books or you could write them a letter, giving the details you have given here as well as the date and place of death.
Morton Hall Cemetery & Crematorium
Howden Hall Rd
Edinburgh EH16 6TX
Tel. 0131 664 4314
Fax. 0131 664 2031
Someone else may be able to suggest other approaches to this, so there may be another way of going about it.
Best wishes
Lesley

It may be worth contacting the Edinburgh Room of the Edinburgh Central Library (contact details and webpage can be found on the TalkingScot Libraries page). Ask if they could consult the newspaper (Scotsman and Evening News) microfilms for the days following the date of death and look for a funeral notice. That should say where the burial took place.
All the best,
AndrewP

Not necessarily. As the Evening News is a more local paper than the Scotsman, it is the more likely.fmackay wrote:Did you not have to be someone of note etc to get a mention in Scotsman etc?
I have the 1901 funeral notice download of my farm labourer g-g-g-grandfather from the Scotsman archives. He was buried in common ground (a pauper's grave) in Ratho Cemetery. A year later, his widow was buried in another plot in the common ground there. So these were not "people of note".
All the best,
AndrewP
