hi joyce

because she died before 1855 there is only a very very slim chance that there would be a record of her death. there isnt a lot of death records for OPR times.

but im sure someone else who is better informed will help you further

Hi Joyce

I did a quick search on SP using every possible combination of wildcards I could with no result so as Karen said, chances of finding a death entry in the Old Parish records are quite slim.
A possibility might be a Monumental Inscription in one of the Leith churchyards. I think the pre1855 stones have been published although I don't think there is anything on-line.
Don't say 'they were too poor to have a headstone'. Often it was the next generation who actually arranged for a stone to be erected and inscribed.

Another possibility is Mortcloth records. This would involve getting your local LDS centre to get the film for the area and trawling through to see if there are any entries. A job for a wet day when you don't want to be out and about anyway !
Some parish records recorded the name of the person hiring the Mortcloth so you might be in luck.

Does anyone out there have access to the Leith MIs to help Joyce :?: :?:

Back again Joyce

I just noticed this post from a month or so back about Leith Burial records.

http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

I'm sure Sheena would oblige if you PM'd her with your e-mail address.

Since Jane died first (probably!) her burial would almost certainly be somewhere in Leith. If Andrew had bought a lair (burial plot) for her in Leith then he may be buried there too since Bonnington is just on the edge of North Leith. You might add Granton to your search list too.

Hi Joyce
South Leith burial records are generally very good. You can see them on microfilm - your nearest LDS centre should be able to order the films for you for a small charge.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi
I have North Leith, New North Leith & South Leith Monumental Inscriptions and have had a look but your family are not mentioned. Another possibility is Rosebank Cemetry which is near Leith too but I do not have any M.I.'s for it
Cheers

Hi

I don't have MIs but I would think Rosebank Cemetery would be quite likely for someone living in Bonnington - i'ts just up the road.

I had wondered if Rosebank Cemetery had opened by the 1850s. It seems the answer is "yes", it opened in 1846.
