Necropolis Index?

Post by heymarky » Thu Mar 01, 2007 2:47 am

Rummaging through old posts that mention "Necropolis" I saw hints and allegations of an indexing project.

Does anyone know if anything ever came of it? (the posts I saw were old)

Unfortunately, the Scottish National Death and Burial Index that is in preparation hasn't done the Necropolis yet, as far as I know. If you read the thread where I was looking for the burial of my 3rd great grandfather, I had to finally look through the (unindexed) microfilm of the Necropolis to find the record. And that began by guessing where he might have been buried. None of that is yet indexed.

Sorry for the bad news,
Sarah

It's not bad news so much as a lack of good news. :)

I was kind of hoping for a meet-the-cousins instead of a visit-the-library! :)

If you let us know when you are coming over we could arrange a 'meet the fellow addicts' instead. It could be combined with your 'Visit the Mitchell' expedition.
Going there with someone who knows the layout is most beneficial.

True enough, David. If heymarky is lucky enough to be looking for the Southern Neccropolis, there is an online index. Is that index complete, though? It looks too short...
