Monument Inscription books

Post by ArchiveCookie » Wed Jul 04, 2007 11:59 pm

Does anyone know if the Monument Inscription book for Glasgow Cathedral New Burying Ground is the same information as in Glasgow Cathedral Burying Ground? I have the former and don't want to purchase the latter if they're the same!

Thanks-

Hi ArchiveCookie
I'm not very knowledgeable on Glasgow but I found this:
The Cathedral’s New Burying Ground
The burial ground to the north of the cathedral is the site of the hall and
residences of the Cathedral office bearers known as the Vicars Choral and the Vicar's Close, before the Reformation.

and GWSFHS say:
Glasgow Cathedral Burial Project
This Project aims to plot on a Grid Pattern and record the burials in the Old Burying Ground of Glasgow Cathedral, which date from the 1600s onwards. We also research the background of those buried there, who are mainly the rich and famous of Glasgow, a veritable "Who's Who" of a bygone age. We are not yet at the stage where enquiries can be taken, but the Project continues. Watch this space.

I'm still not sure if they are the same area - I kind of think perhaps they are but I don't know. We need a Glasgow person to help out with this one!!!

Perhaps sending an email to GWSFHS might help sort it out for you?

Best wishes
Lesley
