Glad this has been explained, as I had looked at Scotlands People several times and clicked on the 1921 census link only to find it showed nothing. I came here to ask anout it, and now have an answer. It might have been better if he had not put the link there until it was ready to go live, as I spent ages clicking on it, putting search details in as the search box opened, then saw the message there were no results to show. Frusstrating and puzzling but at least I now have an explation.

Just read on another site that the 1921 Census for England is to start releasing on January 6th 2022 ,
so how come Scotland is waiting till the end of the year ?
Pretty tough as this is the only Census for many years.

Hi Momat,

In some previous statement, ScotlandsPeople cited Covid restrictions as having delayed their work on the 1921 census. The ScotlandsPeople website is still showing 'the latter half of 2022' for the planned date to release of the 1921 census.

England and Wales have no 1931 census to release in 10 years time as the papers were all destroyed in a fire in December 1942 in Hayes, Middlesex; not a war-related fire. The Scottish 1931 census papers were stored in Edinburgh and still exist, so should be released in 10 years time.

Then of course there was no 1941 census as World War II was taking place at that time. The 1939 register that was made for Identification Cards and Ration Books is the closest thing to a census for that era.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thank you Andrew,

I knew most of this information but people were still working behind closed doors regardless of Covid so it seems odd, if England could do it why not Scotland ?
Many of us may not be around to see this happen due to age. Sad : : xmas:cry: xmas:cry:

Update from SP Facebook this morning:
Work is well advanced for the release of the 1921 census records later this year.
We are confident we will publish the census before the end of the year but it is a large and complex project and we can’t yet give a specific date.
We know customers are eagerly waiting this exciting release and we will provide a date as soon as we can.
Patience my friends, patience!

I'm as eager as the next man to see this, but I'd much rather it was done correctly than sending us up back alleys with missing information.

Bl*ody hell. Into November and still no sign of when it will be available. Having blocked the Lymphoma bullet early this year the longggg wait is somewhat tedious.
