1871 Census Missing pages .....

Post by aileenc » Sun May 29, 2005 6:52 pm

Has anyone noticed that pages 36 &37 - Involving Larkhall Lanarkshire - are missing online? Half the family I am looking for are on page 35 and the rest should be on 36, but all it says is "page missing".
Any ideas?

Hi Aileen

Is this the Gilmour family living at 17 Raplock Street, Larkhall? On the microfilm it has three copies of page 35 and then goes straight to page 38. From the original, there is only one further member of the household on page 36:

Mary Gilmour, Neice, 5, Lanark Dalserf.

There are no more Gilmours on pages 36 and 37.

When 2 paqes are missing like this it can often mean they were skipped during the microfilming process many moons ago.

As the digitised images were created from the microfilms, consulting the film may not help, but, in such an instance GROS should supply a copy from the original enumeration book.

Hello Rachel

Thank you, thank you, thank you.......I feel quite faint ... it is indeed my family in Raploch st. Mary Gilmour is my G/Grandmother and I have been trying on and off to make this Irish connection for some years. Now I know for sure who her mother was....sadly not her father... I can make a foray (armed with all the info i've gleaned from Andy's posts ) into the Irish records.

Might need to sit down or even stand up to recover.

thanks again

Davie

thank you too for your comments and while I am at it also all the articles you have written and guidance given over the years. How else would I have found out about fasti scotia ecclesiasti :!:

I sent a contract form to SP and received a speedy reply explaining that the missing pages weren't actually missing but there had been a problem with indexing or scanning. Also an offer of a copy of the original and a refund of ten credits. Satisfactory result.

Aileen

PS am trying to work out bold ,snip etc......need more practise
