Hullo "Kiwi"

Is there any particular area of Scotland your ancestors are from? Knowing that may help us to point you in the right direction for further research.

Hi Annette.

Thanks for the reply.

These rellies of mine are shadows i think.

This is what i have sofar.
Thomas Hill on his census 1851/91 states his birth place as Kinross. Kinrosshire. In 1851 census age 15 on his own as farm servant
On marriage and death cert he states his parents as Robert Hill and Margaret Young., also Thomas children has the middle name Young
Where do i start looking to find a result as all i seem to do is hit the brick wall.
Can you advise.
Thanks

Hi "the kiwi"

It all depends on what you are looking for ........

Edinburgh has the advantage of being the location of New Register House, - statutory BMDs, censuses, OPRs; next door is Old Register House, the HQ of National Archives of Scotland, but note that criminal and certain other records are half a mile away in West Register House in Charlotte Square (and check with NAS on any advance notice period required to have certain records brought into NAS - it can take a couple of days); another half mile away is the National Library of Scotland, with the best collection of newspapers in the country; there's then the Edinburgh Central Library opposite the national library on George IV bridge (see www.edinburgh.gov.uk/libraries/ for their holdings); and last but not least, the library of the Scottish Genealogical Library has the best collection in Scotland of MIs, including some unpublished listings, -see http://www.talkingscot.com/links/fhs-links.htm for SGS and other FHS contact details.

On t'other hand if all you need relates to Glasgow and the West of Scotland, then the Mitchell plus the Family Research place at Park Terrace which now has a link into the NRH DIGROS system, may be all that you need.

Then there "the Watt" in Greenock ( http://www.inverclyde.gov.uk/Libraries/ ... ion=11:1:4 ), and many other such, - the Carnegie in Ayr ( http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/librar ... rnegie.htm ), - all over the place, - see the http://www.talkingscot.com/links/libraries.htm location on this site :!:

Hi Linda

Accessing the records by post is indeed possible. Maybe even email, - try lil@cls.glasgow.gov.uk .
