Hi Lesley

The 1851 Census shows William(son) 1844

The 1861 Shows John 1855 & Alexander 1861, note the gap again.

William died in 1870 and 1871 census shows no more children.

Father William was a ploughman so thought he would have been home every night

These late nights are not good for you.

The guidance given to registrars was not to include the child/children in the 1855 record in the listing of the children; but it's very obvious from a number of 1855 records that I and others have seen that some registrars did include the subject(s) of the 1855 birth register record.

In other words, unless you have full info on previous children there will always be degree of uncertainty.
