Re: Marrage
HI Alanst500,
The marriage can be found on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - for free on the index. However as it is a "modern record" - for marriages, more recent than 75 years ago - the certificate cannot be downloaded online. From the index you get a year and a registration district. To see the certificate, there are two choices: (1) to pay the fee for a legal extract from the register; or (2) to visit (or have someone visit on your behalf) the ScotlandsPeople Centre in Edinburgh (or one of its outposts around Scotland). In the ScotlandsPeople Centre, you can view "modern" records, and transcribe the record for yourself there. For the "modern" records, there is no printing out the record itself (as you can do for a small cost for older records). After you have paid your entrance fee for a day in the ScotlandsPeople Centre, you can view as many records, "modern" or older, as you can fit into the day for no extra cost. You can take notes for yourself from these at no further cost, or for the non-modern records, you can print them out for a fee (you used to be able to save the non-modern records to a memory stick for a fee, but that had to be stopped a few months back after a virus risk was identified - I don't know if that has changed back yet or not, if ever).
All the best,
AndrewP
