Did someone mention books? This gives me a chance to once again put in a plug for sacred-texts which site includes the full text of a great number of old books, some Scotland specific. Not necessarily useful as a family history source but may be of interest to some.

AND
Google Book Search http://www.google.com/books
Type Scottish or Scotland in the search, select Full View, and that will bring up many old publications which, with a bit of luck, you will be able to download as a PDF file.

AND LATER
I almost forgot Project Gutenberg - search for Scotland or Scottish and you'll find the text of over 50 old volumes.

(Edited later to remove a list of Sacred-text books also listed on site and to make post more concise. - Alan)

Hi there Alan
Have just whiled away a happy half hour wandering round the sacred-texts site. Some interesting bits and pieces there!
