Hi cous,I think this has to be her.The age name, place of birth(can't find any other Barnes/Barrans.in Ballantrae.)
I knew????? that her Father was from Ireland but for the life of me I cannot think how(think might be on her OPR Marriage entry which I viewed several years ago)
So what happened to the rest of the family?Any occupation for her on the 1841?
Andrew Torrance seems to have been a good husband to her.He was a Blacksmith & James 1849/50 their only child.According to Andrew's Poor Relief Application in 1888 she died in Greenock c 1852.Andrew had "poor eyesight" & had had a stoke which had left him with some degree of paralysis hence the Poor Relief which was fantastic from my Family Historian perspective he is described as a "sober, steady hard working man" which is always nice to hear.
Andrew's Mother Elizabeth Linn then took care of young James & lived with them until at least 1871.He remarried in 1871 & James married Catherine Brown in1873 & they had seven children one of whom Elizabeth Torrance was my Maternal Great-Grandmother. The Torrances all "did well" for themselves & I know at least three emigrated.

Barons

Post by Dibit » Tue Feb 28, 2006 4:22 pm

I may be related to this Barons family, but I need to find more info.

I can trace mine back to Robert Barons s/o David Barons. I know both were born in Ireland, and migrated to Cardross, Dunbartonshire.

I do not know were to look for more information with regards to finding records in Ireland, without spending a small fortune.

Perhaps David BARONS was related to John BARONS, both migrating from Ireland?

Any help is appreciated in finding more info?

David
