Hi Alan
Looks like you've done pretty well so far. At work just now, but will look at the document and your transcription later and get back to you with any bits I can add.
Best wishes

I'm not 100% sure of any of these additions, they are just suggestions.

Hi Lesley
Apologies for not replying sooner - life in the real world has been unbelievably hectic recently!
Thanks for your contributions, which have been duly added to the transcription. I agree, it's a difficult hand. I sometimes leave it for a bit, then when I go back for another look I find I have to "train" my eye back into it.
Ah well, back to the coalface....
Regards

Lesley/AlanLesleyB wrote:HiThere should be a way to follow up land or houses through the sasines. These are held at NAS, and there are plans to put the abridgements online. Most of the abridgements are digitised already, and can be looked at on the PCs at NAS, but I don't know when they are due to be made public. Don't think this would tell you the amounts that the properties realised though....but he also left 6 properties to be disposed of. I take that there is no way to find how much was realised in the disposal of these properties?

As a small aside here, back in the late 1980s I worked at the University of Paisley, in a small unit called the Land Value Information Unit. At that time we purchased sasine current abridgements of all the Scottish counties. We got the information from extracts produced by the Keeper's office. It gave names of buyer and seller, and exact location - often including old measurements of rods and perches (!!) - and also the amount paid by the purchaser. We put this information into a computer database which we then sold to the likes of builders, surveyors, local authorities etc.
At that time we were obviously working on current data which was being produced contemporaneously by the Keeper's office, so I'd think that they would be well able to spot an opportunity to raise more income by doing the same for historical data.
