I think you will find there's never a "very definite brick wall " on this board not with the brilliant folk here. They are like ferrets   They love a challenge.

I'm really enjoying reading about Eliza
Anderson, McAlpine, Blue - Argyll
Dunn Fife /ML
Coutts, McGregor - Perth/Govan
Glen, Crow, Imrie - Angus

Thanks to all the fantastic information a kind soul here has looked up for us, a certain brick wall now has chinks in it!

Mum and I have had a chat and she is very hopeful that the Eliza born around 1818 in St Mary's Jamaica is our Eliza. If that's the case, we have far more detail to go on than we've ever had before.

Now all I need to find out is where she was buried!

I like that idea, Joette! I can see Mum and I having a visit to Jamaica at some point but we'd need very detailed information on Eliza to make it worth our while.

Seriously, though, Eliza died in Richard St, Glasgow in June of 1881. I don't know where she was buried and part of the problem there lies in the fact that large chunks of Anderston (including the North St cemetery) were dug up and destroyed in the 1960s when the motorways and fancy buildings were being constructed.

A visit to the Mitchell to find further info would be a good move but I'd need to have specific data to work with - I hate going there with no real idea of what or where I'm going to work on.
