If you plan to delete part of your tree in your computer genealogy program but still have lingering doubts you can easily save that part of your tree as a Gedcom file as insurance. That way it is easy to add the branch back onto your tree if the wrong garden path you thought you were wandering up turns out to be the right one after all.
If you’ve already deleted the branch and it’s too late to make a Gedcon remember that if you backup your data, depending on the system you use, you may have an old copy of the family history file. This can be opened by your genealogy software and used to make a Gedcom of the deleted branch.

Hi Alan
I have already deleted the tree, but your post reminded me I still have an old back-up ged I haven't amended yet
Thanks for reminding me

Hi Annette
I had a look at the 1823 marriage for Peter Mathieson and Isobel Duthie, bingo, it looks like the right one he is a teacher
I think that clinches it as the right marriage
As he is consistently noted as being a teacher in all the documents I have in reference to him.
Just a pity the chalkie was remiss at registering his wains births
I think I may also now have his and Isobels births too with parents.
