It was mentioned by rellie of the granny that she had had to cope with an alcoholic husband and the son George who was continually running away and causing plenty of family turmoil. Maybe his siblings had long been fed up with him and just not interested in him anymore. As for Mum - alcoholic husband, poverty, just too much to cope with already, the thought of having the added financial responsibility for a whole little family - puts head in the sand and tries to ignore the whole issue.

I was judgemental about her too, but probably a worn out woman's response.

I did wonder why the researcher did not look for a birth for at least a year before his "marriage" - particularly when there's me shouting at the telly to tell him :?

It WAS good. Think this is a "beat that" scenario.
