I've been trying to find death certificates for Isabella Gray, and Cowden of course, pre and post 1855 and found nothing on SP or the LDS site. I wonder if they moved back to where they came from if they were "Foreign, .........English or Irish" and died there?
It's good to hear different opinions and views on that Scoonie census return for 1841, as I sometimes get a bit bogged down and fresh eyes on the job make all the diffrerence.
It's all a bit of a mystery which I've been working on for a while and it looks as if I'm stumped again!
'The Curious Case of the Extra Children' could well be a title for a Sherlock Holmes novel Sarah! I even looked through the rest of the 1841 census as suggested by SarahND to see if their parents were around the area, but it does not look likely.
Ho Hum.

Sure enough it’s on YouTube, but isn’t everything. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO2vNt_yI3k
There are some other versions there if you search the correct spelling.
Here’s a couple of older versions.
“The Scottish Songs” published 1829. (page 220)
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=nJc ... 22&f=false
“Old Ballads” published 1810. (page 88)

Very nice,
Alan
