To see an OS town plan of 1892-1894 go to http://geo.nls.uk/maps/towns/glasgow189 ... ayers.html, you will have to zoom / pan to locate Argyle St. You can use either Google or Bing as your base with the OS as an overlay.

Re: Glasgow
If you have been looking for it at Google Maps you should not be looking for Argyle Street but Kilmun Street like Alan and I did.JMac wrote:Hi David.
you have given me so much information tonight, how can I ever Thank You?
aslo, thanks for the link to the old pictures of Maryhill Glasgow.
so, are you saying that number 1 Arglye Street does not stand today?? as it did in 1890/93ish?
as I did see a up to date picture if it tonight, but just wondering if it was the same house that my relatives lived in at the time.
Best Wishes
John McCrea.
1 Argyle Street is in a completely different location today.
Glasgow merged with surrounding areas around the 1930s so if any streets shared a name then one of them had to be changed. In this case we had Argyle Street, Maryhill and Argyle Street, Barony (which still exists today). The one in Maryhill was changed to Kilmun Street.
Hope that makes sense.
Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette,
Many thanks for your reply, I have since looked on Google maps for Kilmun Street, with thanks to David. I have been up and down this street but it looks like number 1 Kilmun Street has been knocked down, as I can only see number 2.
again thanks for your help.

Re: Glasgow
Looking at the 1892-1894 OS map I mentioned in my earlier post Argyle Street as it was no long exists as all the buildings have been demolished. Argyle Street would have been the part of Kilmun Road between Maryhill Road and Shiskine Street (modern street names, Main Street and Water Yet old street names). I would say very little exists from the 1890s in the immediate area.

Re: Glasgow
Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply with regards to Argyle Street ( the re-named one) , I do understand that this area suffered from bombing in one of the world wars.so this may have been the end of my families house? and this might be why I can find no records of a marriage for a David Lieth McCrea (David Leath McRae) born at 1 Argyle Street, Marryhill, Glasgow. on the 26 November 1891. also his sister Margaret McCrea (Mcrae) born Glasgow 13 Feb 1896. these still remain a problem to me.
Many thanks for your help and reply.

Re: Glasgow
Hi John
I was having another look at the 1894 map and it looks like the area may have been redeveloped in the early 1900s also. If you look at the opposite side of Maryhill Road in street view there are the typical Glasgow Tennements but the type of housing shown on the 1894 looks as if it was two storey and had rear stair access to the upper floor, this is the same type of housing in Argyle Street.

Are you thinking that these people may have still been at that address when it was bombed? Not sure, otherwise, how the fate of their house would be a problem for finding the family. I note from Annette's information on one of your other posts: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15599
that by 1901 they were at Brown St, Bridgeton. After that, as you said, some of the family went back to Ireland. Perhaps the 1911 census for Scotland, to be released in just a few weeks, will provide you with more information.
All the best,
Sarah

Re: Glasgow
There's a Gairbraid Road, [and Court and Place] still in Maryhill.
Maryhill Road was it known as Gairbraid Street at least until 1912 - the map I found it on has that date.
It's also reffered to as the A81 route on some maps.
On the 1912 map Garscube road runs North West out of the city until Ruchill Street, it then changes to Gairbraid Street.
Now Maryhill Road is the name of that full section [ and beyond].
Where a number 33 would have been I'm not at all sure.
the postcode G20 9SH should get you near it.
