I wonder if he was related to Robert Condie, the murderer and changed his name so he wouldn't be associated with him.

I just found that! strange, ok I think I've got the 1891 cenus - barlinnie prisoner robert condie wrong... but i know the name was changed from Condie to Fraser at some point after JAN 1907 and before AUG 1921. And a huge thank you to everyone who is helping me!!!!!!!
I've got a bit of hope again!

In 1911 there is a 13 year old George Condie? indexed as Cordie with grandparents in Dollar. I can't see their name as they are on the page before and I have run out of credits. Do please check that one Kirsty and put me out of my misery. He seems to have a sister Mary just a year older than him.

Looks as though it would be this family at Larbert in 1901 Anne -AnneM wrote:In 1911 there is a 13 year old George Condie? indexed as Cordie with grandparents in Dollar. Kirsty,
Have you looked at the death entry of the Robert Condie registered in 1940?

Annette

The report on the 1919 attempted murder charge is in the Glasgow Herald, 22 October, 1919, page 10, second last column. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=G ... page&hl=en
The accused and his wife and another married couple went on a holiday to Portrush, Ireland. He became obsessed that his wife was having an affair with the other man. When they returned home his wife moved out and went to live with her mother and he went and shot the other man. I can’t see any mention of his age or anything else that might be useful.
According to the Scotsman he lived in Merry Street, Motherwell. The victim was Harry Roden.

Re: Why would a family change its name?
Got a nudge in the right direction from a dear old friend. He gave me the family location in 1901and as you can see they were already calling themselves Fraser by then.
Here they are at Anderston, Glasgow -
Robt Fraser 34 Brass Finisher born Airdrie (might be worth a check at the original as Robert seems to be getting younger and younger)
Mary Fraser 29 born Shotts
Magdalen Fraser 10
Robert Fraser 8 born Airdrie
Annie Fraser 5 born Stirling
George Fraser 3 born Stirling
William Fraser 3 Moths born Lanark, Lanark
Going to have dinner now - be back later.
Many thanks ....................

Re: Why would a family change its name?
Just got credits for scotlands people and checked the tip you gave me and it's not the right family the Grandparents are George W. and May Cordie but after checking dates again the condie grandparents were both dead and so was Mary Ann Fraser's father leaving only her mother as the surviving grandparent (i think, not 100% sure yet)...the earch goes on...
