As I was from the East coast we called them Buckies, but knew them as Whelks too, I remember picking them up down at the rock pools and taking them home for Mum to cook, I still love a buckie, it was great fun to sit at the back door with your pin and pick them out.

Nothing on this earth would entice me to eat them.

My mum used to buy a bag at The Barras if we went there on a Sunday. Even now thinking about her putting that pin in and then eating what she pulled out makes me feel sick. :mrgreen:

Buckies here too, but since I lived in sight of Buckie town I thought it was a really local name :wink: Knocked quite a few off rocks at low tide when I was wee but never eaten one.
