A big thank-you to Trish, SarahND and Annette for all the great help.
Annette - where did you find the bdm record for James Russell death and Janet Russell birth? These are definitely my lot and I have not been able to find them previously.

Thanks
Sue

Hi Sue,

I found a death indexed at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for a James Russel at Neilston in 1836 but it may not be your James. I don't even know if you will be able to tell if he was the man married to Janet Kirkland if you view the record - I don't have a lot of experience with OPR death records.

I haven't found a birth for Janet junior - I got her approximate birth year and place from census records.

Here they are in 1871 at East Kilbride -

Robert Hethington (pretty sure this should be Hetherington) 26
Janet Hethington 32 born Neilston
Janet K Hethington 4
Robert Hethington 7mo
Janet Russell 75 mother in law born Carmunnock

There is a death indexed at SP for a Janet Kirkland/Russell in 1873.

Regards,
Annette

You are not alone making that mistake. Without going back to my car, which holds the relevant folder I had away at the weekend, I too would have to have thought long and hard as both KIRKWOOD & KIRKLAND connections keep popping up in our extended families down the generations, including more recently here in New Zealand.

In Sue and my case, both appear to originate with our CAMPBELL connections.
