Hi Annette

Andrew's surname was Quin I got that from the family but when they came over here with their broad Irish accent it was translated as Queen as has been that way ever since.

The info you gave was great I now have where abouts he was born and where his wife was born so that will narrow down my search.

Andrew was the person who registerd his wifes death and he is down as queen. His daughter-in-law registered his death an she was married as a Queen so she put the family surname as Queen.

His death certificate says he died in Govan Poorhouse and he died in the February 1904 so he would have to apply for help to get admmited to the poorhouse. This inormation is not hand written the place of death is an offical stamp.

I do not have my folder with me but I will get all the information when I get home and let you know next week. Many thanks for all of your help.

Hi Heather and Annette
It's unfortunate that the record started in 1885 does not also include his application and death from 1904?, they would often tag any new applications onto an existing record.
I have a record for one of my own relations, the application started in 1900.... it tells me that the recipient died at Stobhill in 1904 and it includes every subsequent application by his widow up till 1928.

researching
McIntyre, Menzies, Cowley, Pearson, Copland, McCammond, Forbes, Edgar etc. in Scotland
Skinner in Northumberland

Yes Jim I've seen lots of these.
I can only think it's because the application in 1885 was actually for his wife and not him.
