Not to forget the Scotland Will Flourish chorus...

Here's to the King sir, you ken who I mean sir
And every honest man that'll do it again
Here's to the chieftains o' all the Hieland clans
They've done it mair than once, and they'll do tt again
When you hear the trumpets sound, tooti taeti to the drum
Up your sword and down your gun, and to the rogues again

...but I suppose we should leave that out, same as the last verse of God Save the Queen

Emanday, don't think that is the official chorus to "Scotland will Flourish". Husband and I went to Corries concerts for years and we think the part you quoted is an old Jacobite poem or something. No doubt some of the clever folk on here will let us know where it comes from. Husband always sings the 1 st verse as the chorus.

We remember Ronnie Brown reciting it though maybe as a link between songs.

Must go on the Corries web site as all our music books are probably up the loft and it's far too hot to be going up there today!

Roy Williamson will live for ever in his music. Many happy memories of Corries concerts.

What's this got to do with genealogy?

Tracey said "Now where's that genealogy site gone to..................................... "

I don't want to drag this site down to the level of a sectarian feud however, why is that it is only those with jacobite sympathises who seem to think they speak for the people of Scotland. The vast majority of Scots are Unionists and are perfectly happy to get along with our English neighbours. Don't get me wrong I am a Scottish patriot but part of my pride in being Scottish is in the influence we have had in this country we call Great Britain and the influence we have had in the greater world due to our combined efforts. I don't like God Save the Queen because I am not a Royalist, however I am not offended by the rebelious Scots line as it clearly refers to Jacobites who personally I am glad were crushed (more Scots were on the winning side at Culloden than on the losing side) How can you justify the anti English sentiment in Flower of Scotland and then criticise GSTQ. Our national anthem should reflect the positive things about our country not the chip on the shoulder, inferiority complex some of us have with regards to our near neighbours.

In view of the potentially controversial views increasingly being expressed in this thread which could very easily lead to further posts that conflict with TalkingScot declared policy, it has been "locked", i.e. no further posts possible, while the Admin Group of TalkingScot consider the situation further.

After considerable discussion of the situation among the Admin Group, in view of the potentially controversial views increasingly being expressed in this thread, which could very easily lead to further posts that conflict with TalkingScot declared policy of common sense and guid Scots manners, it has been decided by the TalkingScot AdminGroup to "lock" this thread, i.e. no further posts will be possible.
