Harder Than Cryptic Crosswords

Post by innjess » Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:31 am

Hi Currie,
Would really like to check the link re 60 Hutchisons, and James Horsburgh, but it's rejected because "...can't find the server www.gencircles.com"
Maybe you could check again?
Thanks
Innes

Hi Innes,

www.gencircles.com is as it should be, but looks like it has gone offline just now. Keep trying and hopefully it will be back online soon.

All the best,

Currie wrote:Back again Innes,

I just found something interesting. If you click on this link http://www.gencircles.com/users/junestr ... ?Hutchison you’ll find a list of 60 or so Hutchison’s. On the second page the “Hutchison, James horsborough” link will take you to submitted information about the family, including notes at the bottom of some pages.

They have the death as 18 Sep 1861 in Edinburgh, but don’t say where the information came from. You’ll find a Submitter Info link on the left and a contact address.

Alan
Excellent. :D

Must be something to do with the tyranny of distance! Still not coming up, I'm off for a spot of dinner at the local pub, and I'll give it another go tomorrow.
Thanks

Hello Innes,

I've just had breakfast and I'm off to work now.

If the link still doesn't work when you try again, type the address it in to your address bar and go that way.

Regards,
Annette

Well our very modest, 'very reliable census expert' who has just recently bought a new computer has done it again.

Here is the death entry for William's father and I'm glad to say William registered it and even gave his father's original occupation. At last we have them at the same address (same as 1861 census)!!!
:D
James Horsburgh HUTCHINS (69) Shoemaker, d. 18 Sep 1861
at 19 West Crosscauseway, Edinburgh.
Widower of Euphemia SKINNER.
Pas - John HUTCHINS, Provision Merchant (dcd) & Euphemia m/s KING (dcd)
Informant - William M. HUTCHINS, son.

Thank goodness for that it was driving me crazy.

Let's hear it for J... oops nearly gave it away.

Kind regards,
Annette

Hi nelmit,
Just a quick one! What does "Pas" in your last post mean/stand for?

I've gone thoroughly through the various posts. I note that James Horsburgh Hutchison/Hutchins (Shoemaker) died 18 Sep 1861, and that he was the Widower of Euphemia Skinner, and that the Informant was William M. Hutchison/Hutchins, son.
I can't find William Murray in the 1861 Census at 19 West Crosscauseway, Edinburgh - the only William there is a William Reid, who married Euphemia, and had a daughter also named Euphemia.
Checking OPR Births and Baptisms between 1/1/1839 and 31/12/1841 I find four William Hutchisons:
DOB 25/04/1841 William Hutchison Parents James Hutchison/Helen Todd Clackmannan
DOB 26/03/1841 William Hutchison Parents James Hutchison/Ann McQueen Tulliallan Fife
09/02/1841 Hutchison William Bell Parents James Hutchison/Ann Brown Glamis Angus
04/09/1841 Hutchison William Brown Parents James Hutchison/Anne Pierrepont Old Machar, Aberdeen
So, I find a huge problem in accepting that William Murray was born in Edinburgh, and that Euphemia Skinner was his mother.
The family hand-written records from my aunt and my father, and from William Murray himself, say that James Horsburgh Hutchison's father was not John (as above), but James (again) and he was his and Elizabeth Crawford's 10th child, born 1792 in Fifeshire.
I have applied for William Murray's death certificate from the English GRO, and hope, when it arrives, that it may confirm or disprove some of the above!!
