Jean...think your are right
'the couple from Carlisle that you want to be your family.'
At the moment the 'Carlisle Couple' are the only couple in the UK & Ireland that fit the bill but I am trying to confirm this so is also part of my search for Thomas's birth. The informant on Thomas's
DC was his son Thomas, and his address is correct.
Think I will go to SP and buy the John's
Will maybe some clues will appear.
Still perusing all that you have found so far and trying to get it right in my head same way as I know Thomas and descendants back to front, hopefully back later with info on John's
Will.

Ahhh....just went back and tried again. Finally was able to view the DC of Mary BOYD and fyi the parents names match those on Ann GRAHAM's so I"m confident the 1851 census entry I gave you above is the widow of John Graham.
I'm wondering now too if the younger children present in the household of the 1841 census might have been grandchildren.....surely if John Graham and Ann Dalton wed in 1806 and he didn't remarry until 1830 something then it's feasible they had time to have quite a large family.
One other bit and maybe this too has been tossed around before so apologies if I'm re-stating something obvious....the 1841 census of your Thomas and Catherine shows wee Janet at 1 month of age...but the IGI shows Janet being christened in 1842 and the 1851 census shows her at age 9. I'm wondering if they might have had two Janet's or maybe even Janet number 1 was born a Brown....hmmm.....off to have a wee nosey...
Best wishes

And yet another wee bit.....I'm going to assume that this is the marriage of Ann to Mr Murdoch
ALEXANDER MURDOCH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages:
Spouse: ANN GRAHAM Family
Marriage: 15 FEB 1829 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
The OPR record from SP gives you the further info that they were both of Anderston parish and he was a calico printer. If this truly proves to be big sister Ann then it's also safe to assume that the family were in Anderston by 1828.. (unless she had an awful short courtship

)
Best wishes

And the NICOL nuptials...
JOHN NICOL
Marriages:
Spouse: MARY GRAHAM Family
Marriage: 26 JUL 1833 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
which OPR image from SP will tell you that John is a Slater and finally the huge massive clue why no children births are found in the OPRs......these folks were wed by the Rev. William Illingsworth of the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel on New Bridge Street in Tradeston.
I guess it would be a wise move next to ascertain if any christening records exist anywhere from this church!
Best wishes

Hello Jean
Trying to keep pace with you....Fwwwwww
Have just found this in between, will try and pursue this line also.
Methodist Churches
'History—
The first Wesleyan Methodist chapel was erected in Glasgow in 1787. A circuit was established in 1765, but the cause was never strong in Scotland. Four new chapels were built in Glasgow between 1813 and 1819, but by 1841, only the original chapel on John Street still was open for Methodist worship. The Great Hamilton Street chapel existed 1816–1821 and the Anderston chapel 1819–1826. The Bridge Street chapel in Tradeston existed 1813–1839.
A Primitive Methodist circuit existed in the Glasgow area from about 1827.
A Methodist New Connexion society existed in Glasgow from about 1810. By 181? membership had risen to 97 and a chapel was built in East Clyde Street. In 1827 membership was 123, but thereafter rapidly dwindled.
There were three Independent Methodist chapels in Glasgow, Charlotte Street 1832–1896, Suffolk Street 1840–1850, and Low Green Street 1854–1896.
The Methodist Union took place in 1932.
Source: Sources for Scottish Genealogy and Family History, by D. J. Steel, pub. 1970. FHL Ref. Book 942 D27ste, vol. 12.
Records—
List of Members 1806–1825
Circuit Account Book 1785–1887
Note: Available at the National Archives of Scotland, Edinburgh, record CH11/23.
Dates look about right:
The Bridge Street chapel in Tradeston existed 1813–1839.
Thanks ever so much Jean, you seem to really enjoy the 'Hunt' don't you?
