At least you didn't have to walk down the hill to the well and cart back buckets (half buckets by the time you reach home) of ice cold water to heat for the dishes. Christmas Eve was very cold at my son's as well. The furnace died mid-afternoon, but the repairman was on to it within the hour of the repair call and replaced the thermostat.
