aahh...I should have realized that Marilyn, mind you, when you think about it it would be thrilling to be handed your ancestry on a silver platter and find out who came before you...they obviously get a big thrill out of it and are happy with that and probably aren't interested in making it a lifelong obsession like we do. We get the satisfaction of finding the information for ourselves, allbeit, with a little help at times.

A few years back a certain chocolate maker ran a competition "your wildest wish" or something similar.They manufacture the one that "helps you work,rest & play".
I entered it with a wish to be locked in overnight with a genealogist at NRH.Mitchell Library etc
I didn't win- it was somebody who wanted to ride an elephant who did ...

Frances like you I wouldn't bat away Ancestry's hand either.

Joette - next time you'll have to ask for an elephant ride to an overnight lock-up with a genealogist, just to work in the show biz angle

I was amused when my husband asked me tonight after the show, why it is taking me so long to finish my research?

I also get this from my relatives. Why are you taking so long? When are you going to put it all together? Are we related to anybody important? As for the last, I am sure that all of my relatives were important to each other. They are certainly important to me.

Let's face it, unless our relatives are directly involved with the research they have no idea that one clue leads to another and we'll never be finished.

So true, it seems that I will never be fininshed. There is always that uncle, aunt, or cousin and their descendants that you just have to find out about.
Also the places where they lived and the kind of society of the day that they lived in. These are the things that make things interesting, not just cold records of births, marriages, and deaths.

I can't see most of them from Europe, but next week when I'm back in the U.S. I'll try to catch up!

Hi Marilyn,

I missed it last night on TV myself but just finished watching the entire episode on the internet. Have a look, you'll find it to be another emotional episode.

This week was Lisa Kudrow who was basically following up on a story told by her father about his mother's family who remained in Germany during WW2. He remembered his cousin coming to visit his family in New York to tell them what had happened to the family. Lisa walked the road her family had to walk to their deaths...needless to say it was very emotional. The good part was that her father's cousin who had delivered the sad news about the family so many years ago wasn't dead afterall but was still very much alive, so a happy ending.

It was an excellent programme.
