I've never heard of Annacker's Midden, but saying it with a slightly different emphasis gets you to A Nacker's Midden - could it be something to do with a knacker's yard - I do hope I'm not being rude with that one, but I truly don't know what a knacker's yard is - think it might be the abatoir?

As naen o' the auldyins in ma faimily ur wey us a cannie confirm Annacker butcher's shop.

I have never heard of a few of the above sayings, so it wid be good tae fin' oot whit areas they came from.

I had a nursing friend who was ever so posh& when she got drunk she became even more polite.
She could however put on the best Wegie voice in the country & do her impersonation of various "characters".My fav was Senga"I aye act daft & I aye get a free hurl" Senga threw the Mace at the Orange Parade.(whilst chewing gum).
I remember a patient laughed so much we had to change the bed linen.
One of her fav sayings was "She lives so far up spam valley they eat maps"(think about it).
Tell you Ricki Fulton &Stanley Baxter could have had a run for their money from her.
The biggest insult you could offer was "he/she are right midgie rakers"(which would result in a skelp on the lug if a parent heard you)

Ma Mither came frae Clarkston, Airdrie no Busby

She met ma faither in John Browns during the war when she was a welder. Ma faither came frae Clydebank although he was born in Dollar, Clackmannan, why his mither and faither were there wha kens?
Lucky fir me ma mither was half an inch to short to get in the RAF
She stood a towerin 4ft ten and a hauf inches, aboot the same size as wee Alec her faither.

Who was Henderson ? Is this peculiar to the N.E. of Scotland ?

My mum was born and raised in Govan, my dad was born and raised in Clackmannan, he and his family moved to Glasgow as my granda had some newsagents shops there.

I'm Clydebank born and breed - no' sure if that's sumthin' tae be proud o'!

Well I would say that Clydebank has gone to the dogs! It is now officially
an area of multi-depravation but as a third generation Bankie I am so saddened to say it.
Much I blame on the decline of the traditional industries on which Clydebank was bred but also on the dreaded Local Government Reorganisation.
I always have a wee greet to myself when I fly in & there's no more "John Brown's" to see from the air.
I know we have to live in the future but it would have been great to have retained some of the "old skills" & the pride of being part of the "Clyde built"tradition.

It is very sad Joette I agree.

Pete worked at John Browns for 23 years, he was paid off 6 yrs ago just before the full closure. It was so sad, there was nothing to commemorate the place - just as with Singers.

They keep coming up with all these great plans for luxury houses and apartments - but there is no work in this area. Let me re-phrase that, there is virtually no "skilled work" in this area. It's all fly by night companies and minimum wages.

Very shortly there will be no decent housing in this area other than the £250,000 luxury apartments, which most Bankies can't afford.

I guess we are very fortunate - Pete retrained and got a better job, I work part-time and we live in a nice place, with our son, but I do worry about his future - because I very much doubt it'll be here.

My brother-in-law was the last man out of Brown's-always worked hard,never missed a days work etc.He has not worked since-not just the work loss but bereavement(lost his two brothers within weeks of each other).My cousin worked there,plus two Uncles over the years.
My nephew has a PHD but couldn't find work.He has now set up his own company& is doing very well.He is very loyally staying in Clydebank.
It is a worry over the future one of my other nephews is emigrating to USA with his wife(she's American) because they can't afford to buy a house here.My American cousins had a fit when I told them how much it costs to buy/rent here.
As my Grandpa used to say "We're all Jock Tamsons bairns but some are the ones he hasnae told his wife about".
