I've only once had the problem [ Monday I think].
In Scotland and always logged in, no access problems either on old PC , New PC or hubby's laptop.

Main prob is [like Alan] nobody else is here or posting :(

Been logging on successfully fo a couple of days, bur the dreaded error message has just recurred.

However, the 'FAQ' route worked, i.e. Google on 'TalkingScot FAQ', get that window on screen, and then log in as normal !

Don't have a problem logging in via e-mail links but trying to get direct access results in a "/home/16095/talkingscot/www.talkingscot.com/public_html/forum/i ... m_file.php on line 430"

Within the "Admin" panel of PHPBB there should be a function to clear the MySQL database cache on the external server - I'm not au fait with these scripts so you may have to hunt. Clearing the cache and running a manual CRON update may cure the access problems.

If you are into PHP scripting you could FTP into the "acm_file.php" on line 430 and manually increase the allowed memory size BUT BE CAREFUL!!!! The allocation size must be matched by the Service Provider's allowed cache sizes.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Hi Andy
on line 430 and manually increase the allowed memory size
Thanks for the helpful suggestion but as far as I am aware, I think part of the problem is that our hosts have set a limit on the cache size which they consider to be adequate, but which is clearly not adequate for our forum for one reason or another. I'm sure Andrew will put me right on this if I've picked it up wrongly. I'm not sure if Andrew has cleared the MySQL database cache, but I rather expect he will have tried that too. I certainly did a lot of googling on the error message when it originally appeared which gave hints of various routes to try, but so far all attempts to sort the issue have unfortunately not resulted in normal hassle free access for all members.

Best wishes
Lesley

A limit on the cache size is a distinct possibility, except I can't understand how the access route of Googling on 'TalkingScot FAQ' would work if there was a cache size limit problem.

Ahhh! There you are!! Haven't been able to get here in for weeks - just kept getting the home page, followed by an error message when I clicked the forum button. Never thought to try any of the other buttons  Thought you'd gone! :? :

Glad you're back

Greetings.

The genealogical search web is such, that very soon, after problems have been experienced, there will be a comment somewhere. In these cases, I quickly Google to see what goss is on the go. Even after I read that the FAQ page may provide a back door entry, it was another day or two, before I thought to Google it too, as I could not find my way to the FAQ page or the forum.

I have now purged the cache (something I have always been wary of until now). As far as I can tell that has not made the difference I was hoping for. As for a manual CRON update, that's not something I am familiar with.

I have looked at PHP scripting, but would not claim to be into it. Our host considers 16M to be 'very reasonable'.

I am working with other ideas in the background, and hope to have a solution soon.

All the best,
