The MV Seaforth, torpedoed 18 Feb. 1941

Post by John Wilson » Sun Oct 21, 2007 8:08 am

Distant relatives were drowned when the MV Seaforth was sunk and I would like to find out more about it, including where the ship sailed from and where it was going to and where it was when it was torpedoed, etc. I would be grateful if someone could let me know where I could get further infomation.
Many thanks
John Wilson

Hi Tracey and John,

Tracing the coordinates at Google Earth shows, the Atlantic Ocean nearly 550 miles west of the most northerly part of the Scottish mainland.

Regards,

Hi
That position puts the ship just inside the Mid Atlantic Air Gap.
There is some info about the convoys here http://www.naval-history.net/WW2Campaig ... ticDev.htm

Also see: http://www.photoship.co.uk/Disasters%20 ... plist.html then click on the MAJOR DISASTERS AT SEA
and scroll to 629pdfSEA then scroll again to SEAFORTH.
I'm a Cousin - are you? http://www/LostCousins.com

Looking for Beck and Trotter in Hawick and
Roxburghshire

Hello John,

A late post on the Seaforth,

These two links might add a bit to what you know about the Seaforth

http://www.warsailors.com/convoys/sls64.html (two thirds down the page)

http://www.uboat.net/allies/merchants/768.html (see also biography of U-Boat Captain)

Hope this helps,
Alan
