Afternoon All:
I am looking at a 1907 passage record for James McMenemy, he arrived in NY from Liverpool 5-10-1907. He was joining his father in law James Hartley, the "address" is given as G.P.O. Turtle Creek.
Ive tried googling GPO and havent had any success, same for Turtle Creek, any ideas where to look from here?
Thanks
Karen

GPO
I might be totally wrong here but could his address be GPO as in General Post Office as where he was going to had no proper street naming or numbering at that time and mail etc would be held there til collection?
It is what came in to my head when I read it so you can disregard it if you think I am having a senior moment

That's my experience of GPO.
Frances
P.S. Just searched http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=g.p.o.&r=66 which gives only 2 references - general post office and government printing office.

If you type "turtle creek" in the Rootsweb town/county database, you'll find that there are towns by that name in 6 states. Lots of creeks with turtles in them, I guess

Thanks everyone:
Im guessing on PA, he was a miner by trade, perhaps he went there to continue his "craft". Though on my grandfathers obituary in 1951, James is living in Glasgow again. I'll try searching the census reports and sed if he's there.
Ta,
Karen
