Hi,
Have now received Stephano Belli death certificate. There is no information on there that can help me.
No parents names. Not even an address where he lived.
I have been browsing and found a reply that 'David' received. He was looking for French ancestors and LesleyB suggested the naturalisation website. This was in 2006 so it was a while ago. You may still be there David.
Wondered if this might help me!
If David or Lesley, or anyone else who has used this could you please get back to me.
many thanks
Helen

Hi Helen
You could try searching the online catalogue at the National Archives site. That is how the document David was looking for came to light. The naturalisation documents seem to be in HO 144, but just try a general search for Belli first and see what turns up.

Hi Lesley,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I have had a look at this site and no luck.
Stephano was born in 'Parmoor' (no such place - think its Parma) Italy about 1835.
He first appeared in the 1861 Scottish census living in Glasgow at 2264 Rochsoles Hse as a servant - no idea what that is.
He is in the census again in 1871 living in Edinburgh, then I found his date of death 1879 in London, he was found in the river Thames but there is no further information.
I wondered if there would be a coroners report that might give me more information!
Not sure where to go from here, it's so frustrating.
Have you got any other ideas?
thank you
Helen

Hi Helen
Any chance you could upload the census page to the gallery - I'm sure the combined knowledge of TS members would be able to puzzle that one out for you!
If he died in London then I would think that any legal or other documentation surrounding the death would be in TNA in London. Not sure where else you could look. Would his occupation have generated any documentation? e.g. PO Directories, trade guilds, newspapers ...that kind of thing. When in 1879 did he die?
Best wishes

Hi Lesley,
Not sure how to upload the link. I was only able to cut and paste. Will that do?
As for the TNA London, sorry if this is obvious but can you tell me what that is please?
His occupation at the time of his death was a looking glass silverer. He had others before that, but I will look into it.

Hi Helen

for instructions.
But perhaps your info came from Ancestry?
: TNA = The National Archives, at Kew, London.

If you have the image of the original page from Scotlands People you could upload it to the gallery so that we could have a shot at working out where it was he was staying. See:Not sure how to upload the link. I was only able to cut and paste. Will that do?

Hi Lesley,
I did find it on Ancestry but went into Scotlands people and found it there also.
I am having trouble uploading it. I saved it to my desk top but it was distorted but still ledgible. So I thought I'd try and upload anyway, it gave me an error message saying it would not allow it.
Sorry, I am not only new to ancestry research but to the internet as well.
regards
Helen

Roughsalloch / Rochsolloch House?
Hi Helen and Lesley,
It might be Roughsalloch / Rouchsalloch / Rochsolloch House?
Which is just south / west of Airdrie.
--
It can be seen on any of these four NLS maps at -
http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/counties.html
--
1816 - William FORREST. Select Top Section.
Roughsalloch is at the bottom of the bluey-green area at the top middle of the map.
--
1821 - John AINSLIE. Rouchsalloch is directly south of 45 (at the top of map).
1822 - John THOMSON - Choose the Northern, Roughsalloch is on square Ec.
--
1856-1891 - ORDNANCE SURVEY One-inch. Select Sheet 31 - Airdrie.
Rochsolloch will be found going north from 3° 59' (at the bottom of the map).
--
Seems it was one of the "Big Hooses" of the area.
