Perthshire/Fife MIs

Post by simbasgang » Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:54 pm

Hi all,
Does anyone have any MIs for the Comrie area of Perthshire please? or Markinch in Fife?

I am looking to verify my ancestor Catherine McKisaik, who was married to Daniel Robertson. The marriage was in Comrie 3/5/1788.

My problem is that there were 2 Catherine McKisaiks born about the same time and I have no proof which one is mine. :?

The first one (and the one I think is the most likely) was born26/8/1762 in Comrie to JOHN MCKISAIK and CHRISTIAN MCBEATH

The second was born21/5/1759 Comrie to PATRICK MCKISAICK and CATHERINE DRUMMOND

Catherine and Daniel had 6 children that I know of:

PETER ROBERTSON b 1791 Newburgh, Fife
CHARLOTTE REBECCA RUTHVEN ROBERTSON b21/4/1793 Markinch
JAMES ROBERTSON b 31/7/1795 Markinch
KATHRINE ROBERTSON b20/1/1801 Markinch
MARY ANN MELVIL ROBERTSON b24/11/1805 Monimail

Somehow I think there may be a link to the Ruthven Family also.

If anyone can help identify Catherine, I would be most grateful

Thanks Sheilah x :)

Hi Sheila
Not seeing any McKisaik or relevant Robertsons in Markinch MIs.
Just reading that surname out loud, I suspect it may also turn up as McIsaac or similar.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Sheilah,
Just judging by the children's names, the 1759 birth seems more likely, since she named one son Peter (interchangeable with Patrick at that time) and a daughter Kathrine. But not everyone named children after their parents, of course...

All the best,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah and Lesley,
Sarah, with the 1762 birth, Christian McBeath- Catherine's mother- had siblings Patrick, Janet, John, Helen, James, Catherine and Andrew!! Going with the naming pattern is why I went for this one. Also Christian's parents were Patrick, who had a sister Helen and her mother Mary (also McBeath) had siblings John and Janet!!
Can't find a lot about the 1759 Catherine as both parents also have doubles. :?

Lesley, trawling through the Family Search site and SP, I have at least 10 different spellings of McKisaik/McIsaac. The latest one was McTisach, which I am told was the celtic spelling

All the best
Sheilah x
