I recently found the gravestone inscription for my GG gandmother and her siblings at Stoneykirk. Would she have also been buried there? She married and lived in Ayr and the inscription syas "died at Newton Head Ayr."
If yes was it usual for a married daughter to be buried in her own families graveyard. If no why wouldn't she have had a gravestone in Ayr - her husband was reasonably well off.
was she buried where the gravestone is

Hi jenmac,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
There is no guarantee that she is buried there. Sometimes the wording can be "in memory of _____, buried at _____". On the other hand, maybe she had maybe told her husband that she wanted to be buried with her parents, and he complied with her wishes. It may be worth trying to contact the Dumfries & Galloway Cemetery Records Office to see if they can tell you who all are buried in the plot in Stoneykirk.
All the best,
AndrewP
