Indecipherable - Boog ? Ideas

Post by alan w » Sun Oct 12, 2008 9:05 am

I have a copy of an OPR birth for Robert Crauford (09/05/1736 Inverkip), and I am having trouble figuring the name of his mother, it looks like Kathrine Boog which is an unusual name, but I can't find any marriage record for her and spouse, James Crauford. I have looked under various wildcards and for a good age range too. Any thoughts ? I will post image if I can figure out where to do that.

It looks like Boog, but its most likely Boag.

Yes, I see that in the IGI the mother of Robert and his siblings is variously transcribed as Boog or Boag (or just plain "B"!). There don't appear to be any records of her birth or marriage (at least on the IGI) but that is not too unusual at such an early date. You're very lucky to have got so far back!

All the best,
Sarah
