Post by gcheers » Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:53 am

Researching Isobell Rose daughter of Alexander Rose and Janet McDonald. She was christened July 7th 1765 in Cawder,Nairn...It states daughter of Alexander Rose and Janet McDonald in Delloharn....for the life of me, I cant find this Delloharn...witness were Hugh Rose and Wm.McGlashon..Anybody know where this is or this family?

Good morning!
How clear is the writing? Here are some possibilities, that you have probably already seen...

http://www.nls.uk/maps/os/oneinch_1st_graphic.html

Map 84

Dalcharn
just left of the C in Cawdor on the one-inch maps
Or Lower Ruallan just above the A
Or Dallaschyle, just up and to the left of the N in Nairn

All the best,
Sarah

I can't find it on a current map, but I think it may be here:

http://www.nls.uk:8080/StyleServer/calc ... ugin=false#

Click a little way in from the righthand side of the map, about halfway up, and magnify until Cawdor is legible. Croy should be visible, due west. If it isn't, pan left a little. "Dalcharn" is just east of due south of Croy. Look for Cantraydoun, Pullackcunnach, Carnach and Ben na Creagan, all names in the same area.
