Genes re

Anyone seen the "new " site yet ?

I just emailed them and told them that it looks like the end result of someone having drunk to much.
Cant believe they are happy with it.

I came across it today, heaven knows why they've done it. Makes it more difficult to navigate & gives no new information that's of any relevance to most of us. Don't know about you but I'm not connected to the captain of the Titanic or Charlotte Bronte!

 Its like the Piccadilly Circus / Times Square of ancestry research - all those flashing ads are really annoying !
The colour choice is so dreary and hard on the eyes for any period of time which has put me off trying to look for the "new" features.
But in the end we will all have to put up and shut up !

Hi all
I too got a shock when I logged into the new site, still not much change for us mere mortals though is it.
On another point, now that I am on wireless broadband with a new wee thingy that lets me instantly know my usuage. I got a bit of a shock to see that Genes is a high bandwidth user site, especially when looking at those hot matches etc. Yikes.

My response from GR
Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for taking the time to write to us and express your opinion.
Our team have worked very hard redesigning the site so I am sorry to hear that you're not too keen on it.
However, I would like to assure you that I have made a note of your comments and will pass them on to our development team as they are looking at every piece of feedback that our members send in to us.
Best regards,
Merry Xmas xmas:exclaim:

I have the greatest difficulty actually getting onto the site and usually give up waiting for it to appear - I just get the wallpaper effect, then my pc refuses to load any more. I have just had notification of 'hot matches' - HELP!!!
Researching: KNOX of Renfrew. Also FORSYTH, MCFARLANE, MCINDOE, BENNIE, HUTCHISON, HENDERSON

The following taken from Chris Paton's blog:

Genes Reunited to be sold off by ITV

ITV has confirmed that the Genes Reunited website is to be placed up for sale as part of the Friends Reunited group, which the television giant purchased in 2005 for £120 million.

The site, which has recently been considerably revamped with new added features, is now up for tender, and an ITV press spokesperson has confirmed to me that a couple of approaches have already been made with regard to its potential purchase. How this will impact on users of GR has yet to be established.

I just recently renewed my membership.......maybe I should have waited.

Hello Ina,

Seeing that GR is nothing more than a collection of contributions by its users maybe we’ll all get a cheque in the mail.

It’s our information they’re selling, if you took that away the infrastructure and goodwill probably wouldn’t be worth a great deal.

But it’s a fire sale so it will be interesting to see how much a company of the Genealogical variety will sell for in these uncertain times and where the money comes from.

All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Wouldn't that be nice. I really don't mind paying the subscription as I've located several cousins, and lots of family information through GR.

Will be interesting to if it sells and for how much. I'm sure Chris will keep us updated on the sale.

Regards,

Ina
