Strange Cause of Death

Post by bleckie » Thu Feb 05, 2009 1:31 pm

Hi All

I have a strange one, I have a child who died aged 8 months in 1939 and the cause of death is listed as Cirrhosis of Liver.

Now I don't wish to make light of this but I was allways lead to believe that this was caused by an over indulgence of THE WATER OF LIFE, or is this something totaly different, can anyone enlighten me as I find this one rather strange.

Yours Aye

No, it's not just caused by Alcohol but seems to be any sort of liver disease that causes the scarring and eventual failure of that organ.

I googled it and came up with several causes in children:
cirrhosis in children often stems from a wide variety of liver disorders, including (but certainly not limited to):

Hepatitis viruses B and C
Autoimmune hepatitis
Inherited diseases:
Glycogen storage disease
Tyrosinemia
Wilson disease
Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency
Cystic fibrosis
Bile duct diseases
Drugs and toxins
Excess vitamin A
Fatty liver disease
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh

Poor wee mite.
