How do i go about finding my ancestor ?
Have been trying too trace my G/Grand parents. On my grand parents marriage certificate it has them as deceased at time of marriage. Grand parent was born in 1911, so unable to access this on SP site.
Tried blanket search on 1901 census and got a return of 6 matches. Selected one which i thought was a possibility, and only after trying too trace childs birth did i find it was wrong person. Believe G/Grand parents too be born in Ireland, where or when unknown. When married is also unknown, but NOT in Scotland as i have already tried a search on SP site. When arrived in Scotland is also unknown.
Where they also died is unknown as i have tried deaths on SP site and got no matches.
Believe grand parent had sibling(s) and on her marriage certificate there is a female witness.Have tried putting this through marriages on SP site but got no matches.
Where do i go next?
Do i continue too go through other 5 on census, only to find they are not there or do i just give up on trying to trace them ?
Any suggestions on where else to try or what i am not doing right would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about that, only started doing tree in December of last year.Still quite new too this.
G/grand parents where called Patrick Slaven & Mary Kelly. Grand mother (their daughter) was called Hannah McLuskey Slaven b.1911.
She married John McAllister in 1930 at St.Columkills in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire.
Think the witness at her wedding could have been her sister, this is only a guess as it could have been a friend, but believe there to be a connection with the surname. Witness name is Susan McSorley.
Hannah's address at time of marriage was given as 9 Silverbanks Street,
Cambuslang, Lanarkshire.
That's it.
Nothing else too go on other than this.

Hi Rob,
Have you viewed Mary Slaven (m.s. Kelly)'s death certificate. There are a couple of items of note on it. The informant was John, a son. Her mother is named (surname Kelly) and no father named. The implication (not proven) from that is her parents were unmarried, and the father not acknowledged.
Her death certificate is easy to find, by searching for Mary Slaven, other surname Kelly. With no date criteria, that produces 4 results. The location will be no surprise to you, and the combination of age and year should direct you to the right one. She is listed as a widow, so Patrick can be searched for between 1910 (allowing for 1911 birth of child) and Mary's death year.
On looking for Patrick Slaven's death, there is no obvious candidate. On using wildcards as P*t* Sl*v*n, you get Peter and Patrick (often used interchangeably) as well as Slavin as a possible surname. There is a possible one in there, as Patrick Slaven, who died in WWI, aged 39. On looking up his record on the Scottish National War Memorial website, his birthplace is given as Shotts, Lanarkshire. I know you thought your Patrick was born in Ireland. Could he instead be the man from Shotts? Just an idea, but I accept it could be well off track.
All the best,
AndrewP

Thanks Andrew P.
Will definatly try to get death certificate your way as when i tried i just entered Mary Slaven and year from 1911 too 1930.
Did same for Patrick Slaven only difference being i did name variation on surname. The reason i thought was Irish is that i could not find them anywhere, that and the fact my other G/grand parents were Irish.
Also my father had an Aunt called Bridget Carr who i used too visit with my dad when i was young. Although i was aged 5-7 yrs old i recall she spoke differently to us, hense the thinking of Irish. I should add that my dad's cousin Patrick Slaven was also her nephew.
Tried a search for her on SP site under Carr but can't remember if i did this under births or marriages, got no matches anyway. Her brother John stayed with her but don't know if he was also named Carr. He didn't speak much, if at all while i was there as i recall.

Hi all,
I've been looking at Ancestry for Rob's relatives and found a Patrick Slaven in Cambusnethan parish, town of Wishaw on the 1891 census. Rob's other relatives are shown in Cambuslang parish.
Are Cambusnethan and Cambuslang the same place?
